sculpture
The sculpture workshop is frequented by both first timers and experienced sculptors of different nationalities, encouraging a good working atmosphere and the exchange of ideas.
Work is based on individual inspiration: each person develops their own idea so that they can obtain a strongly personal result. The first phase of their idea may be outlined in clay. Each person chooses his or her theme for the statuette as well as their work rate.
The development of each piece of work will be monitored by the teacher, Benn Schröer, who took a degree in monumental sculpture in 3D at the Fine Arts Academy in Enschede, the Netherlands.
The stone used will be limestone or Portuguese marble. There is a stock of stones from which participants may choose their own block.

location
The Quinta das texugueiras (the badger's burrow) is a very peaceful place where the suns shines a lot and the wind is filtered by the trees. In the quinta there's very old pine and olive trees, cork oaks, eucalyptus and strawberry trees, as well as all sorts of plants.
You can work outdoors where there is no shortage of inspirational spots under the trees, overlooking the valley.
Everwhere you look in the quinta, there's sculpings and statuettes. You'll find "Chico" in Portuguese marble and there's strange "iron-trees" and stone-trunks. Have a look at the Quinta das texugueiras page and you'll find out what we mean.
There's places to sit and watch the views and there's a special varanda in a big corc oak.
Meals will be served in a house in the village nearby, Moita, at 1 km.

surroundings
The city of Caldas da Rainha, at 8 km from the workshop location, owes its name to the thermal spring much loved by Queen D. Leonor, wife of King D. João II.
There's a lot of interesting musea in the city. In the "Centro de Artes" you will find the museums/ateliers of the famous sculptors António Duarte, João Fragoso en Barata Feyo.
And don't forget to visit the Museu de Cerâmica (Ceramics Museum) where a collection of the work of ceramist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro can be seen.
